Il primo Omicido Opera
DescriptionThe first murder to music! The assassination of Abel by his brother Cain is one of the favourite subjects of Italians at the beginning of the 18th century, at a time when the oratorio was a phenomenal success in Rome and Venice. In fact, it is probably in one of the palaces of the Serenissima city - and not in the church - that Scarlatti created in 1707 this astonishing 'sacred entertainment' worthy of the verist opera... God and Lucifer clash within the very soul of Cain, the voice of his deceased brother comes from heaven and the spacialisation of the soundtracks contributes to the efficiency of an almost expressionist music: in short, nothing is missing from this incredible biblical staging with the allure of a baroque thriller.
