Description

The waltz represents a couple of dancers at the limit of the breaking point of balance, as if carried away in a whirlwind. In a first version, Camille Claudel represents her nude dancers but their sensuality is considered unacceptable and the artist dresses in a more modest drapery his characters so that the state can acquire the work.

Camille Claudel's dramatic life is inextricably linked to that of Auguste Rodin, her lover and source of inspiration. But his relationship with the already very famous Rodin will prove to be fatal for this artist endowed with both immense talent and a particularly strong and stubborn character. She does not manage to come out of the shadow of the master, which she must also share with several rivals. Having finally broken, she tries to find her own way. Her psychic health, however, deteriorated rapidly and her paranoia eventually lead her to a psychiatric asylum in 1913, where she died thirty years later.
