Ma Mère l'Oye / L'Enfant et les Sortilèges opera program - Opéra Garnier from November 21 to December 14, 2023

A teapot dancing the fox-trot with a Chinese cup, an armchair courting a Louis XV shepherdess, objects and animals ganging up on a naughty child: such is the marvelous universe brought to life by Maurice Ravel in his "lyrical fantasy" created in 1925. A finely orchestrated musical gem, it displays the composer's taste for humor, childhood poetry and animals - an affection shared with Colette, who penned the libretto. While artists from the Académie embody the characters from L'Enfant et les Sortilèges in Richard Jones' dreamlike staging, students from the École de Danse perform the ballet Ma Mère l'Oye (1912) in Martin Chaix's inventive choreography. An opera, a ballet: two works by Ravel inspired by childhood and fairy tales, sublimated by the red and gold of the Palais Garnier...
