LA FILLE MAL GARDEE / PROGRAMME / Garnier / Mars / 2024
Description
La fille mal gardée Ballet program - Opéra Garnier from March 15 to April 01, 2024
La Fille mal gardée tells the story of the cunning triumph of a forbidden love. A ballet-pantomime created by Jean Dauberval in July 1789 at the Grand-Théâtre de Bordeaux, it has inspired numerous choreographers throughout history with its childlike universe and its amused vision of peasantry. In 1960, English choreographer Frederick Ashton presented a virtuoso, humorous version that had roosters, old ladies and umbrellas dancing. A gallery of irresistible characters evolves to the sound of popular songs and opera buffa arias. Typical of the "ballet d'action" theorized in 1760 by Jean-Georges Noverre, a choreographic genre that values expressivity, La Fille mal gardée dazzles and amuses with its freshness. In a farmyard or a field of wheat, the hearts of Lise and Colas search for each other and eventually find each other. Like a musical comedy, Ashton's revisiting of the original script carries us away with its whimsy and smiles.
