BEJART / PROGRAMME / Bastille / Avril / 2023
Description
Program of the Maurice Béjart ballet at the Opéra Bastille - from April 21st to May 28th 2023
Maurice Béjart's collaboration with the Opéra national de Paris lasted more than forty years and brought more than twenty works to the institution's repertoire. In this program, dedicated to the choreographer who died fifteen years ago, the Paris Opera Ballet presents three works created in the 1970s that shine with the same choreographic and musical intensity. L'Oiseau de Feu, created for the Company's dancers, is an ode to youth set to a powerful Stravinsky score, which the choreographer seizes upon to extract its quintessence. Young "partisans" recharge their ardor and energy at the source of life represented by the Firebird. Written for two male dancers, Le Chant du compagnon errant is an intimate work based on a cycle of Mahler's lieder that reveals all the rigor and grace of Béjart's language. Finally, the mythical Bolero is set to Ravel's eponymous score. Surrounded by dancers, alone on a table, the main performer - male or female dancer - is transported by the bewitching rhythms in an erotic and hypnotic dance like a vibrant call to life.
