Program for the ballet Signes at the Opéra Bastille from June 21 to July 16, 2023.

This work, created in 1997 for the Paris Opera Ballet, was born of painter Olivier Debré's desire to translate into a series of abstract paintings the evocations inspired by the smile, the first of all "signs". Choreographer Carolyn Carlson uses these flamboyant painted landscapes, depicting different parts of the world like so many sensibilities and moods, to set the dancers in motion to an original score by René Aubry, bringing a dreamlike work to life. Now a cult ballet in the Opéra repertoire, Signes embodies the connections between painting, music and dance, which are mutually extended on stage.
