Description
For textbooks and music encyclopedias, the great French opera was born on February 29, 1828, on the stage of the Academy - once again royal - of music, then located at 12, rue Le Peletier, in Paris. It is to the composer Daniel-François-Esprit Auber (1782-1871) that falls, with La Muette de Portici, the honor of signing the first work of a new musical genre which, from the July monarchy to the Second Empire , assures the first lyric scene of France an international glory.A total spectacle, it uses the most innovative technical means, and attracts the most famous musicians, choreographers and dancers of Paris at the time: Rossini, Meyerbeer, Verdi, Lucien Petipa, Philippe and Marie Taglioni. This catalog traces this sumptuous period, which will fade away in the torments of the war of 1870.
